Yesterday was the final day of Maryland’s 90-day General Assembly session, or Sine Die, in Annapolis. State lawmakers spent the day working to get bills passed before the midnight deadline. More than 26-hundred bills have been introduced during the legislative session with a number of measures passing both the House and Senate. Legislation that has passed includes the Community Trust Act which limits cooperation between local law enforcement and ICE and a gun measure that prohibits the manufacture, sale and transfer of certain machine gun convertible pistols. Governor Wes Moore has already signed some measures into law along with the state’s 2027 fiscal budget plan. The nearly 71-billion-dollar budget includes no new taxes or fees and boosts funding for education, public safety, housing assistance, and utility relief while leaving a surplus of 250-million-dollars.
