Allegany, Garrett, and Washington counties, as well as those in neighboring West Virginia and Pennsylvania, have been designated as Natural Disaster Areas, due to drought conditions. The designation allows the USDA to extend “much needed emergency credit to producers recovering from natural disasters through emergency loans.” Along with the three Western Maryland counties, those in West Virginia, including Berkeley, Grant, Hampshire, Jefferson, Mineral, Morgan, and Preston counties were included. In Pennsylvania, the designation affects Bedford, Fayette and Somerset counties.
