Oakland resident Michael David Slagle has been found guilty of sex abuse of a minor, who is a household member, after appearing in Garrett County Circuit Court. Slagle entered an Alford plea, in which a criminal defendant does not admit to a crime, but acknowledges the state has sufficient evidence to convict, beyond a reasonable doubt, of the alleged offense. A pre-sentence mental health assessment was ordered, and a sentencing hearing will be scheduled in the coming months. Mr. Slagle remains in the Garrett County Detention Center pending sentencing.
