President Donald Trump announced $700 million in federal funds to boost the coal industry yesterday. In addition, he announced the awarding of an additional $185 million in Energy Department grant funding to help build two new plants in Alaska and West Virginia, as well as restart the AES/Warrior Run generating station at Mexico Farms. The potential new plants are being pursued by Terra Purus, Inc. in Mount Storm, West Virginia. Trump is invoking the Cold War-era Defense Production Act that gives the President authority to support and invest in private production considered vital to national security.
