Two vaccines are required before your child can start 7th grade this fall in the Allegany County School System, and they are the t-dap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) and MCV (meningococcal). The HPV vaccine is optional but highly recommended—it helps protect against certain cancers. There are several ways to have your child vaccinated; his or her pediatrician, or a free walk-in clinic from the Allegany County Health Department. One will be held at the Project Connect Event at Canal Place on June 24th (look for the blue H.E.A.L. Mobile.) Another clinic will be held on Tuesday, June 30th at the Westmar Middle School. If you choose to decline the required vaccines, a signed exemption form must be on file with your school nurse, before the school year begins. For more information, call (301)-759-5138.
