The Garrett County Public School System was recently recognized for its work in the Blueprint for Maryland’s future, particularly its strong partnerships supporting early childhood education. Mrs. Dawna Ashby, Director of Early Childhood and Elementary Education and Title I for GCPS, shared with the AIB-the collaborative efforts among GCPS, Head Start, and the Judy Center. In addition, Mrs. Ashby shared information about community partnerships that support the Learning Beyond the Classroom Bus. This innovative program travels to designated locations throughout Garrett County, providing early childhood learning opportunities, books, and essential food items to families with children from birth to age five. Garrett County’s collaborative approach reflects a shared commitment to supporting young learners and their families. Following the presentation, Dr. Kirwan commended GCPS for its successful partnership with Head Start and expressed appreciation for the creativity and innovation demonstrated through these efforts.
