Dangerous heat is gripping much of Maryland, with heat alerts covering nearly the entire state through the Independence Day weekend. The National Weather Service has issued Extreme Heat Warnings for many areas Thursday and Friday, with heat index values expected to reach as high as 110 to 112. Some counties on the Eastern Shore remain under an Extreme Heat Warning through Saturday as the hot spell continues. Forecasters urge residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity, check on vulnerable relatives and neighbors, and never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.
