The Garrett County Health Department is reporting the third and fourth laboratory-confirmed rabies cases for the year, so far. In separate incidents, both a lamb and raccoon tested positive for the virus. The third confirmed case was in the Grantsville area, and involved the lamb, and the fourth occurred near the Oakland area with the raccoon. Pet owners are encouraged to verify that their dogs, cats, and ferrets are current on their rabies vaccinations. The Garrett County Health Department will hold rabies vaccination clinics in September.
