Maryland lawmakers returned to Annapolis yesterday for a special session on redistricting. The three-day session is focusing on setting new standards for how future congressional maps are drawn in the state. Lawmakers are expected to consider a proposed constitutional amendment that would spell out how congressional districts are drawn in Maryland. If approved by a three-fifths vote in both the state House and Senate, a referendum will appear on Marylander ballots for the November general election. A Maryland Constitutional Amendment requires any legal challenge to automatically go to the State Supreme Court.
