NEW CELLPHONE POLICY FOR GARRETT COUNTY SCHOOLS

Students in Garrett County Public Schools will be banned from using cellphones in class. The updated policy aligns with legislation that requires local school systems to establish policies, governing the use of electronic communication devices during the academic school day by the 2027-2028 school year. Student cellphones must be stored and out of sight from bell to bell. They can be stored in a backpack or locker, but can’t be used during the school day, and this includes lunch, class transitions and other structured or unstructured learning experiences. The first day of school in Garrett County is August 31^st.
