The pilot killed in a mid-air collision with a Pennsylvania State Police helicopter Wednesday had ties to the Cumberland area. Dr. Paul Sokoloski, of Hershey, had at one time been associated with the then-Western Maryland Health System, now known as UPMC-Western Maryland. Dr. Sokoloski was piloting a plane, near the Carlisle airport Wednesday evening, when it collided with the helicopter. The troopers were treated at the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Governor Josh Shapiro credited the medical professionals who responded to the crash saved the trooper’s lives. The crash is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
