A key indicator of Chesapeake Bay health is moving in the right direction, according to a new survey. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources says underwater grass coverage in Maryland waters grew nearly 13 percent last year, reaching more than 41-thousand acres. Bay-wide coverage increased seven percent to nearly 89-thousand-400 acres. State officials say the grasses provide critical habitat for fish and blue crabs while helping improve water quality.
