Federal election monitors will be deployed to Prince George’s County for Maryland’s General Election next week. The Maryland State Board of Elections says the U.S. Department of Justice is sending observers to monitor compliance with Voting Rights Act requirements, including language assistance for voters who speak languages other than English. Officials say the monitors will not communicate with voters or interfere with the voting process and will observe only from designated areas inside polling places. Prince George’s County has been monitored during previous election cycles as part of routine federal oversight efforts.
