CRYPTID PLATES HIT ROADS TODAY

The West Virginia State Department of Motor Vehicles is honoring West Virginia folklore with a new cryptid-themed license plate. The plate features nine creatures tied to Mountain State stories, including the Flatwoods Monster, Braxie, Bigfoot and Mothman. Other creatures on the plate include the Sheepsquatch, Batboy, Veggie Man, the Webster County Werewolf, the Ogua and the Grafton Monster. The plate is also a tribute to the late graphic artist Jesse Corlis, who started the designs before he died in 2023. The plates become available at DMV offices across the state today.
