Final environmental approval is being given for a new Chesapeake Bay Bridge crossing. The Maryland Transportation Authority says the approved plans call for two new four-lane spans to replace the existing bridge linking Anne Arundel and Queen Anne’s counties. MDTA officials say the new bridge will improve safety, ease congestion and provide enough clearance for larger ships to access the Port of Baltimore. Design work is expected to begin in 2028, with construction potentially starting as early as 2032.
